• Procedures for boom assembly/disassembly.
• Correct hand signals & responsibility of signal persons.
• Procedures for safely working cranes around power lines.
• How to comply with OSHA and ANSI/ASME safety requirements.
• How to comply with OSHA’s requirements when hoisting personnel with cranes.
• Rigging: wire rope, slings, chain, rigging hardware, lifting devices, calculating sling loading, reeving, determining load weight, safe rigging practices and how to prepare a lift plan.

Operator Qualification Certificate Requirements

• Pass a physical examination. A CDL physical is acceptable.
• Pass a written examination.
• Pass a practical examination if possessing less than 3 years operating experience. (1 year for boom truck operators.)

A trainee qualification certificate is available for personnel who do not meet operator experience requirements.
