Hands-On Training

Participants will learn how to inspect all types of rigging equipment in accordance with OSHA and ASME requirements. Inspector certification will ensure that the inspector is competent and qualified.

You Will Learn

  • How to set up a rigging equipment inspection program.
  • How to identify individual components of rigging equipment.
  • The role of rigging equipment inspectors in reducing crane and rigging accidents and liability exposure.
  • Understanding and applying the three levels of inspection.
  • How to perform a pre-use, frequent and periodic inspection of rigging equipment.
  • Inspection procedures and techniques.
  • The correct way to write inspection reports.
  • How to perform rated load tests or proof tests.
  • How to inspect wire rope, chain and synthetic web slings, hooks, shackles, eye bolts, hoist rings, turnbuckles, spreader/lifting beams, load blocks, sheaves, hoists, chain falls and come-alongs.
  • Hands-on training on the inspection of wire rope, chain and synthetic slings.
  • Hands-on training on the inspection of rigging hardware.

Inspector Certificate Requirements

  • Complete a Crane Institute of America Rigging Equipment Inspector training program.
  • Pass a written examination.
  • Have 2 years experience working in a capacity of operation, maintenance, repair, inspection, safety or supervision with rigging.

A trainee certification is available for personnel who do not meet inspector experience requirements.
